Two friends came up against each other at the weekend as Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim shared six goals in a thrilling game at the Signal Iduna Park.
Jadon Sancho’s side were 3-0 up with 20 minutes left on the clock and that’s when Reiss Nelson entered the fray to help his side earn a point in an amazing comeback from the visitors.
The latter was an unused substitute in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, therefore this was the first time the pair have come up against each other in a competitive match and there is a sense of pride amongst them.
Tipped for a bright future in the game, it’s been a standout season for Sancho as he’s made an impact in the Bundesliga as well as in the Champions League and earned a first England cap late last year.
Much is expected of Nelson for club and country and he’s enjoyed an impressive loan spell in Germany with six goals in 15 league appearances thus far.
The game at the weekend is one neither player is likely to forget in a hurry and not solely because of the 3-3 draw.
Both have taken to social media since the final whistle and described their emotions of sharing a pitch together.
“What. A. Game. Buzzing to be part of the come back and help the team,” Nelson wrote on Instagram.
“Also amazing feeling to share the pitch with my brother @sanchooo10, from the cage outside my house to the Bundesliga!”
Crazy crazy game! Disappointing not to get the win but great team effort from the boys today!” wrote Sancho. “Happy to get a goal n also to share the pitch with my close friend @reissnelson.
“It’s been 1 hell of a journey bro but proud of you brother, keep working hard!”
