Kiamrian Abbasov submits Agilan Thani quickly in the co-main event at ONE Championship: Destiny of Champions.

Kiamrian Abbasov def. Agilan Thani via submission (rear-naked choke) Round 1 -2:32 at ONE Championship: Destiny of Champions on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, live from the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Thani vs. Abbasov served as the final MMA bout for the card, and the co-main event of the evening. The main event was a Muay Thai fight between Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex and Luis Regis.


They touch gloves to start the fight. Abbasov opens with a leg kick, backing Thani against the cage. He unloads a flurry of punches, hurting Abbasov early. Thani initiated the clinch but was thrown immediately to the canvas. He got back to his feet and was thrown down again and again. Thani kept standing back up but Abbasov’s persistence was too great and right back to the canvas he went. Back on their feet again Abbasov lands another flurry of punches and then a head kick that dropped Thani to the canvas but somehow he got back up. Abbasov dragged him back down got him by the back and secured a rear-naked choke in the very first round.

Thani was coming off his first loss since being stopped by former champion Ben Askren and was hoping to get back in the win column with a victory over Abbasov on Friday. He did not get his wish and was instead forced to tap in the very first round.

Abbasov lost his ONE Championship debut in March but followed the loss up with a victory over Nursultan Ruziboev at World Fighting Championship Akhmat in August. He was hoping to secure his first win under the ONE Championship banner.
