BJP Kerala chief moves high court for quashing FIR against him

BJP state President Sreedharan Pillai has filed a petition before the Kerala High Court for quashing the FIR registered against him by the Kerala Police in connection with his speech on the Sabarimala issue.

The state police on Thursday had registered a case against Sreedharan Pillai under section 505(1)(b)of the Indian Penal Code (causing public alarm and fear) following his remark on the Sabarimala protests.

Pillai, in the petition, has alleged that media left out certain parts of the speech and only selective parts were shown.

“We have filed the complete transcript and video of the 50-minute long speech. Out of the whole speech, only five minutes were aired by the media. In the speech, he has also said that the protest should be peaceful,” Pillai’s lawyer said.

While addressing the Yuva Morcha activists, Sreedharan Pillai was heard saying that the chief priest of the Ayappa temple at Sabarimala took his advice when women were accompanied by the police to the shrine.

Pillai also said, “The issue was a ‘golden opportunity’ and others have fallen for the agenda that we’ve set.”
